Screwing the pieces together was easy, and the rusting process was faster and easier than we expected.

We wanted a head start on the rusting and did 8 coats of peroxide + vinegar over two (sunny) days then two more days of spraying with regular water and letting it dry between. The rust does stain everything it touches so we lay down a tarp then several layers of cardboard. The second photo was one place where a bit of rust sat for half an hour, so you can see how fast it stains. Wear old clothes!

While we probably would have paid extra to have them pre-rusted, it might have meant a messier assembly. I probably won't use the styrofoam insulation inserts, since they aren't necessary in Vancouver and I'd rather have more soil for the trees we're planting in them, but it's nice to have that option.
